J. Cole Cole World: The Sideline Story was released on September 27, 2011 and it hits Gold today. Wiz Khalifa Rolling Papers was released on March 29, 2011 and exactly two month later it hits Gold as well. I’m proud of both dudes for reaching the level of success that they deserve.

But I don’t understand how Lupe Fiasco released Lasers the same month that Wiz dropped his album and he hasn’t reached Gold yet. He’s not even far from the plaque either, the last report on his album sales we’re 472,000 copies. And when you think about it, it’s no question that Lupe has a bigger fan base and cult following than both artists. So it amazes me how it going to take him 8, 9 or 10 months to reach Gold after his fans were dying for this project to come out and did multiple protests and petitions for Atlantic Records to put it out.

And in no way am I taken away from J. Cole and Wiz Khalifa because both of them are one of my favorite artists and I’ve been listening to their music for years. When I heard the news today about Cole’s album reaching Gold, I was excited as a motherfucker. And despite me not feeling the Rolling Papers album as much, I was happy for Wiz. But being that their new artists to the mainstream audience, you would of expect them to hit Gold in 8 months and Lupe doing what those guys did and hit Gold in 8-9 weeks.

But one thing that all three guys have in common right now is they’re nominated for Grammys this year. That alone is great milestone and I’m glad for all of them to getting to this point (even though Lupe has been Grammy nominated for the past few years now). And to you Lupe fans who’s been begging for this album and has not supported yet, go buy Lasers and help your favorite rapper reach Gold. Continue to supporting Hip-Hop and these artists because at the end of the day, they provide music for yall for free and it’s not going to hurt you to spend $10-$15 on a album.
